ISA Announces Study Abroad Programs in Barranquilla, Colombia

AUSTIN, Texas, August 17th – International Studies Abroad (ISA), an international education provider based in Austin, Texas, proudly announces a new study abroad opportunity for students in Barranquilla, Colombia.

The Latin American Studies, International Business & Courses with Locals program is based at the Universidad del Norte, one of the top universities in Colombia and in the Caribbean. “Our program will further diversify ISA’s program options in Latin America,” Lisette Montoto, Curriculum Oversight Director, said. “This collaboration strengthens ISA’s commitment to partnering with universities that are dedicated to internationalization and are of high academic quality.”

Courses are available in a wide array of disciplines in both English and Spanish, including a wide array of Business, Economics and Marketing classes that will be taken alongside local students. Additionally, program participants can also elect to enroll in a variety of content courses taught in Spanish alongside local students in a variety of disciplines: Architecture, Communication, Economics, Graphic Design, Mathematics, Nursing and Spanish Language and Culture, among others. The Universidad del Norte recently obtained ABET accreditation for their Engineering program as part of a comprehensive internationalization strategy.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in a three-credit service learning project during their semester in Barranquilla. Students will also have the opportunity to complete a specific research project in diverse areas of study, such as Engineering, Health Sciences, Education, Administrative Sciences and Legal Sciences.

“The research project offers students an alternative to their academic coursework and is a great opportunity to gain experience in research methods through hands-on practice while working with experts in the field,” Montoto said.

With planned cultural activities in the city of Barranquilla, and excursions to Cartagena, Santa Marta, Tayrona National Park and Aracataca, students will experience first hand the culture of Colombia. ISA students will also be able to participate in an optional excursion to Bocas del Toro, Panama.
