Have you wondered what it would be like to teach in a different country? Have you considered how a different culture would affect your classroom? Do you want to spend more of your study abroad engaging with students outside of a university classroom?
Check out the University of Otago teaching placement, available to students studying in Dunedin with ISA in Spring 2016! This amazing opportunity lets you not only discuss with New Zealand students and professors how their culture shows up in a teaching environment, but also gives you an opportunity to put that knowledge to use in a local Dunedin school.
After one week of observation, you’ll join a teacher in presenting lessons to the students as part of a teaching practicum. Along with the practicum, you will enroll in a course at the University of Otago focused on understanding the cultural differences between education in the United States and education in New Zealand. Students participating in the practicum will also take a third course in the Otago College of Education, ranked in the top 100 education programs in the world.
When not in the classroom, explore the amazing Otago region of the South Island, home to snow-covered mountains, winding rivers, fantastic hiking trails, and all the adventure that makes New Zealand famous. The Otago Peninsula, known for being home to Royal Albatross, Fairy Penguins, and fur seals, offers beautiful beaches, great biking and hiking trails, sea kayaking, and amazing views of the harbor and city of Dunedin.
